Getting unstuck in Connections

Start with the word that seems to fit the most groups and ask which group it can’t live without. Then look for the purple group early: if four words all hide a smaller word or share a sound, spotting that pattern frees the rest of the grid.

The single-word hint is often more useful than the category. Knowing that one word belongs with a color lets you test which three of the remaining fifteen share its trait. For the rules and more tactics, read how to play Connections.

Questions

What do the Connections colors mean?

Yellow is the most straightforward group, then green, blue and purple. Purple usually relies on wordplay, such as hidden words, homophones or words that precede the same term.

How many mistakes are allowed?

Four. The fourth wrong guess ends the game, so it pays to find one group you are sure of before testing the tricky ones.

When does a new Connections puzzle appear?

At midnight in your local time zone, like Wordle. This page uses your device’s date.

What are today’s Connections answers?

Each color group on this page ends with an orange “All four words” foil. Tap it to see that group’s answers and category; the board at the top colors in as you go, so you can reveal one group without spoiling the rest.

Can I get a hint for just one Connections group?

Yes. Every group has its own column: an AI nudge toward the theme, then one word from the group, then the category name. Use the purple group’s hints first if you’re saving the easier ones for yourself.

Where can I find yesterday’s Connections?

Use the Earlier links under the date or the archive. Every past day has its own page with the same group-by-group hints.

Why are there so many red herrings?

The editor deliberately includes five or six words that seem to fit one category. Only four belong; the extras belong to other groups.
